Why Hindus Celebrate Dhanteras :-  Dhanteras: 22nd of October 2022 we are going to celebrate Diwali on the 24th of October 2022. It’s a five-day festival. Dhanteras marks the beginning of Diwali.

Why do we celebrate Dhanteras before Diwali?

on the fourth day of Krishna paksha of the moon of the holy month of Kartika, we celebrate dhanteras. We celebrate this before Diwali for good health and wealth.

Why Hindus Celebrate Dhanteras?

A story behind the worship and celebrating dhanteras is “on this holy day lord Vishnu embodied as God “Dhanvantari” with a pinnacle of

“Amrita” in his hand from ‘Samundra Manthan’ as mentioned in our holy books. That Amrita was to make all the gods immortal, a saviour from the Devil of hell. We worship the god Dhanvantari on this day with ‘Kubera Kumar’ the god of finances, to make Goddess Lakshmi happy on the day of Diwali, so that she would shower her blessing with good wealth and health.

Story Behind the Dhanteras?

The meaning of dhanteras is “Dhan” means wealth and “teras” means thirteen .so, it’s a belief that on this day if we pray with a pure heart and mind our wealth multiplies thirteen times more than before. And the next day of dhanteras is the only day in a year when we worship the God of death “yamaraj” by offering a diya made up of flour called “yamdiya”.

This worship of yamraj is done by the elder lady of the family after everybody’s dinner and prays to save the family from an unfortunate death we place diya in the north direction of the main door outside the house.
